Padova is a city people come to for very different reasons — a weekend among the Giotto frescoes, a semester at one of Europe’s oldest universities, a work assignment at the industrial zone, a course of treatment at the hospital, a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Saint Anthony. Those stays look nothing alike, and neither should the way you book them. This guide walks through the real options for accommodation in Padova, what each one actually costs once the fees are added, and the booking route that leaves you with the most money and the fewest surprises.
First, Match the Booking to the Stay
Most bad accommodation decisions come from booking the wrong type of place, not the wrong price. Start here:
For a single night before a conference or an early train, a hotel is hard to beat on convenience. You pay for the front desk and the breakfast, and you accept a room rather than a home.
The sweet spot for most visitors to Padova. A whole apartment with a kitchen, a washing machine and room to spread out, usually cheaper per night than two hotel rooms for a family, and far better suited to a stay where you’ll want to cook at least sometimes.
For students, relocating professionals, visiting academics and patients undergoing treatment. Furnished, bills included, monthly rate, proper contract, no year-long lease. Almost always the cheapest way to spend a month or more in the city.
You can see the apartments we manage across Padova on our gallery page — from design apartments in the historic centre to whole prestige villas.
Where to Stay in Padova, Area by Area
The historic centre
Between Piazza delle Erbe, Piazza dei Signori and the Palazzo della Ragione you are inside the part of Padova people travel to see. Markets under the arcades every morning, restaurants at every turn, everything walkable. The trade-off is that parking is restricted and streets can be lively at night.
Around Prato della Valle and the Basilica
Quieter, extremely beautiful, and the right base if you’re here for the Basilica of Saint Anthony or the Botanical Garden. Still an easy walk into the centre.
Near the railway station
The practical choice if you’re commuting to Venice, Vicenza or Verona, or arriving late. Trains to Venice take well under an hour, which is why a good number of people now stay in Padova and day-trip to Venice rather than the reverse.
The university quarter and Portello
Student energy, cheap food, canal-side bars in summer. Convenient for anyone with business at UniPD or the university hospital.
Toward the hospital and the fair district
Less scenic, more practical. If your stay is built around treatment at the Azienda Ospedale or an event at the Fiera, being ten minutes away on foot matters more than a view.
Then Choose How You Book — This Is Where the Money Goes
The same apartment, on the same dates, can cost noticeably different amounts depending on where you click “reserve”. The reason is structural rather than sneaky: the large booking platforms charge the property a commission, and most of them also add a service fee on the guest’s side at checkout. Both of those have to come from somewhere, and they end up inside the nightly rate you’re quoted.
This is exactly why we opened our own booking engine. You get live availability across every Tailor Homes apartment, instant confirmation, and no third party taking a cut in the middle.
Whenever you find a place you like on a large platform, spend thirty seconds searching the property’s own name. Serious operators run their own booking pages, and the direct rate is very often better than the one you were just looking at. It costs you almost nothing to check, and it works far beyond Padova.
What You Actually Get by Booking With Us Directly
- The best available rate. No platform commission and no guest service fee sitting on top of the price.
- Instant confirmation. Live availability across the whole portfolio, confirmed the moment you book.
- A real conversation. You’re speaking to the team in Padova, not a support queue in another country.
- A digital guest guide. Before you arrive you receive a personal guide to your apartment — access instructions, Wi-Fi, parking, the appliances, and our honest local recommendations for eating and getting around.
- Flexibility on the details. Late arrival, an extra night, luggage before check-in, a cot for a baby: these are decisions we can make ourselves.
- Longer stays priced properly. Weekly and monthly rates that the nightly platforms simply don’t handle well.
How to Book, Step by Step
Staying a month or longer, coming as a student, or arranging accommodation for colleagues? Those bookings deserve a conversation rather than a checkout page — get in touch and we’ll price it properly.
A Few Practical Things to Know
- City tax. Like every Italian city, Padova applies a tourist tax per person per night for stays in tourist accommodation, with the usual exemptions for children and certain categories. We tell you the exact amount and how to pay it before you arrive, so it’s never a surprise at the door.
- Registration is required by law. Every guest’s ID has to be registered with the authorities on arrival — this is standard across Italy and applies to hotels and apartments alike.
- Parking needs planning. Much of the centre is a restricted traffic zone. Ask us before you arrive with a car; each apartment has its own answer.
- Book early for the busy weeks. Graduation periods, the Saint Anthony feast in June, trade fair dates and the university term start all compress availability across the whole city.
